Thursday Morning Mindful Self-Compassion Course Added!

8/2/2017

Research shows self-compassion to be a powerful way to achieve emotional well-being and contentment in our lives.  It can provide an island of calm, a refuge from the stormy seas of endless positive and negative self-judgments.  By tapping into our inner wellsprings of kindness, acknowledging the shared nature of our imperfect human condition, we can start to feel more secure, accepted, and alive.                                                       ~  Kristin Neff

Dr. Michael LaValle and I are happy to announce the addition of a morning version of our 8-week Mindful Self-Compassion course!  The course will be held on Thursday mornings from 9:00 a.m. to noon beginning September 21, 2017 in Dallas, Texas.  Course activities include meditation, short talks, experiential exercises, group discussion, and home practices. The goal is for participants to directly experience self-compassion and learn practices that evoke self-compassion in daily life.  MSC is a training program that emphasizes strengthening the capacity to be aware (mindfulness) and building emotional resources (self-compassion). Positive change occurs as we develop the capacity to be with ourselves in a kinder, more compassionate way.   No prior meditation experience necessary.  Come join us!  It's easier than you think!

Mindfulness Training for the Dallas Police Department

7/11/2017

All of you who know me, and know my story, know the toll my Army deployment and subsequent career as a cross-trained police officer and firefighter took on my mental, physical and emotional health.  My journey of healing and self-discovery is what led me to become a certified meditation and mindfulness instructor.

I was a little over half way through an 8-week Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction course, led by Dr. Michael LaValle in Dallas, TX when I had the startling realization that "Cops need to know about this &%@#!"  Mindfulness and my newfound daily meditation practice were transforming me from the inside out.  I didn't really know what an "intention" was at that time, but I remember having a deep knowing and a budding sense of purpose, hopeful I could find a way to share these tools with my brothers and sisters in blue and with my fellow smoke eaters!

So here I am...humble and grateful to be a part of this amazing team...teaching cops to meditate!

The Untethered Soul:  The Journey Beyond Yourself, by Michael A. Singer

Who are you? The author of The Untethered Soul explores the question of who we are and arrives at the conclusion that our identity is to be found in our consciousness, the fact of our ability to observe ourselves and the world around us. By tapping into the traditions of meditation and mindfulness, Singer shows how the development of consciousness can enable us all to dwell in the present moment and let go of painful thoughts and memories that keep us from achieving happiness and self-realization.

Soul-Centered:  Transform Your Life in 8-Weeks with Meditation, by Sarah McLean

My teacher and mentor wrote this wonderful book, Soul-Centered.  It presents a secular, mainstream view of meditation and applies it practically as a tool for personal transformation.  The Soul-Centered journey is one of finding out who you are, navigating your life based on that peaceful, loving, wise part of yourself, and then fully and fearlessly expressing yourself in the world!  Give it a go!

    My Soul

    My Soul is simply me.
Beneath the labels, the clothes, the skin and bones. Beyond words, images, thoughts and ideas.  Beyond the constraints of gravity, space and time. Keep going. Then you will find my soul.
    It's where I Am.  ~  JS
